Katadyn Products Inc. Recalls Optimus Multifuel Expedition Stoves due to Fire Hazard
Katadyn Products Inc. announces voluntary recall of certain Optimus stoves.
WALLISELLEN-ZURICH, SEPTEMBER 27, 2010 – Katadyn Products Inc. today announced a voluntary recall of some Optimus Nova and Optimus Nova+ Multifuel Expedition Stoves sold between January 2009 and September 2010. Consumers should stop using these recalled stoves immediately.
Name of Product: Optimus Nova and Optimus Nova+ Multifuel Expedition Stoves
Units: About 11,500
Manufacturer: Katadyn Products Inc., Wallisellen-Zurich, Switzerland
Why is some Optimus Expedition Stoves being recalled?
Hazard: The conditions described below, which result in torn or expanded O-Rings, can cause fuel leakage and create a fire hazard to consumers. A sharp edge left over from tooling for the quick-action coupling and the ON/OFF fuel supply valve of the pump may cause the O-rings to tear. Also, the O-rings used in the fuel hose and in the ON/OFF valve on some stoves can expand with the use of certain kinds of fuel. Some Nova stoves of the latest production lots may have fuel hoses which are not completely crimped and could get detached.
Incidents/Injuries: While Katadyn has received around 50 reports of fuel leakage, no fires, property damage or injuries have occurred.
